The process of NIN Application and Amendment has received a plethora of complaints. These complaints arose shortly after an announcement was made about the launch of NIMC self service app..

The NIMC self service portal will allow the general public to make changes on their NIN Data. It will in turn lead to reduced waiting times at enrolment centres. 

The Update we were waiting patiently for!

This was something we eagerly anticipated and it’s really exciting to hear that the self service portal is now available to us!

NIMC has new technology making it easier for you to change NIN data; for example you no longer have to visit a NIMC office to change details.

With the NIMC Self service App, you can now easily update information such as your name, date of birth, mobile number, home address, and email address.

The self service app streamlines the steps to ensure you possess all prerequisites for the amendments.

The Commission also recently unveiled the new process on NIMC’s official X handle as fast and easy. Using the NIMC Self Service portal, we can effortlessly make changes to our NIN Data.

Simple, Quick and Easy Steps to Follow!!!

Here is a quick run-up step on how to update your Date of Birth via the self service portal. Please note that the guide below is written as posted:

1. Visit selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng
2. Verify your NIN and logging to the portal
3. Navigate to your dashboard and select the date of birth modification option.
4. Complete the payment for the modification securely via Paystack.
5. After payment, input your NPC certificate number and validate it. Your date of birth will be automatically filled and non-editable. If you’ve misplaced your birth certificate, perform the birth attestation online at nationalpopulation.org.ng.
6. Upload your NPC certificate along with any required supporting documents.
7. Submit your modification request and preview the adjustments.
8. Ensure to check the attestation box before submitting your request.
9. Receive your modification transaction slip promptly on the modification table.
10. Upon approval, receive a notification, and your NIN slip will be dispatched to your email. You also have the option to print the slip directly from your dashboard.

This streamlined process is not limited to date of birth modifications only. Citizens can also update their phone numbers, email addresses, and other details through the same self service platform.

Please be aware that each information you want to change on your NIN has its specific requirements you must acquire. It is advisable to make enquiries first before you proceed.

What the DG Said about this New Approach

The DG of NIMC emphasized the importance of this initiative. She argued that identity goes beyond having a card or simply a number, it is important in obtaining essential services, and also serves to advance oneself and the economy. 

She further observed that assurance of privacy and data security should be addressed during the management of an identity but emphasized the need for inclusivity and accessibility for all Nigerians. 

According to DG, such systems if well designed and implemented can facilitate the nation security initiatives greatly and provide useful services to citizens.

Self-service Kiosks have been introduced to ensure that registration turn-around-time is reduced and user convenience improved which is aimed at ensuring equitable access to important identity solutions. 

Let’s consider that identification management services are more efficient and more accessible compared to other international standards, as the DG of the commission goes a long way in making sure that NIMC offices, front end partners help the citizen where there is a lack of digital access.
