In a significant move aimed at enhancing the integrity of the National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment system, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has temporarily suspended Front-End Partners (FEPs) from engaging in NIN enrolments. The decision follows the initiation of a comprehensive revalidation exercise targeting third-party registration centres.

Director General Abisoye Coker-Odusote disclosed that the commission has identified multiple infractions and unwholesome practices within the processes of NIN enrolment and modification. While emphasizing that the revalidation is a proactive measure to improve the enrolment process and address outstanding debts owed to FEPs, Coker-Odusote highlighted the necessity of sanitizing the system.
Coker-Odusote clarified, “My decision to direct the revalidation of all FEPs was not targeted at anyone or group. It was a step towards sanitizing the system and processes while ensuring the integrity of data in the country’s identity database.”
The revalidation exercise, implemented in phases, seeks to scrutinize claims made by FEPs and address discrepancies in invoices and payments. The director general expressed concern over questionable invoices and claims inherited from previous years, necessitating a thorough audit for transparency.
The suspension of NIN enrolment activities at FEP centres is a crucial aspect of the broader revalidation initiative. Coker-Odusote assured stakeholders that the commission’s commitment to data integrity is paramount, and the revalidation process is essential for maintaining the credibility of the country’s identity database.
Furthermore, the director general reiterated the zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that individuals found perpetrating corrupt practices or any form of infractions will face consequences. The revalidation exercise is anticipated to pave the way for the resolution of outstanding payments owed to FEPs within the first quarter of 2024.
