In the wake of the commencement of form sales on January 15, numerous candidates and their parents have voiced dissatisfaction with the hurdles encountered while attempting to generate electronic pins for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has mandated the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for application, a measure aimed at countering malpractices. However, a surge in complaints prompted JAMB to schedule a meeting with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to address concerns.
Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol for JAMB, expressed surprise at the volume of complaints and assured swift intervention. He advised applicants to halt registration if they observe incorrect details in their NIN records until the information is updated by NIMC.
Furthermore, JAMB emphasized that names are not changeable on its portal, reiterating that information extracted from the NIMC platform remains untampered. Candidates were urged to make necessary changes on the NIMC platform before proceeding with UTME or direct entry registration.
In a bid to streamline the UTME registration process, JAMB assured candidates that a meeting with NIMC is imminent, aiming to address challenges and enhance the overall experience for all applicants.

Candidates seeking JAMB profile codes have encountered challenges, with reports of non-receipt even after following the provided guidelines. Possible reasons for this include NIN discrepancies, such as typos or non-existence in the NIMC database. To address this, affected candidates are advised to verify and revalidate their NIN at the NIMC office.
Additionally, linking the NIN to the your phone number has become imperative, as telecom operators adhere to the Nigerian Communications Commission’s directive to restrict lines not linked to NIN. Failure to verify and link NIN to the designated phone number may result in the non-receipt of the JAMB profile code.
