Users across the nation voiced their anger and frustration due to the MTN Network Outage experienced by one of the best telecommunication service providers in the country. 

People took social media platforms to express their concern as the network outage affected internet and calling services. 

Although the engineers at MTN attended to the concern promptly, working for restoring the services across all the affected locations. 

Users were informed about the ongoing efforts through MTN’s social media handles and reassurance messages about the services requiring restoration were being sent. 

MTN Network Outage: What are the Future Effective Strategies? 

One cannot deny that MTN’s response to the blackout was indeed remarkable, especially under such short notice. However, the event did expose some of the deep-rooted issues faced by Nigeria with respect to the telecommunication infrastructure. 

As demonstrated in the earlier visuals, the result of the attacks piled on to the already worrying issue of multiple fiber cuts which were a result of road construction and vandalism. 

As per the statistics released by the Nigerian Communication Center (NCC), it was revealed that between the years 2022 and 2023 more than 59000 fiber cuts were reported, and additional N14 billion were allocated by the telecom sector in order to restore services.

The figures provided above indicate the seriousness of the problem and the degree of work that needs to be done in order to improve.

In addition, the NCC continues to issue directives regarding the necessity of linking SIMs to active National Identification Numbers. This particular requirement is to be met no later than the 28th of February in 2024.
