What I like about this device

Pocket-Friendly Price

For someone who does not want to spend lavishly but is looking out for a decent gadget, the Redmi 13C is the right fit as it retails for about ₦105,000. Among the cheapest choices, it ranks among the best due to its responsiveness to price.

Phone Performance

As far as daily usage such as social media engagement, internet surfing, and light gaming is a concern, the Redmi 13C which comes with the MediaTek Helio G85 manages to deliver impressively. It does a decent job with tasks as well. Thanks to the incorporation of 6GB of RAM and the 2GB of virtual RAM that enhances it even more.

My Dislikes

I have already given several reasons for liking this device, but there are still some reasons for which I disapprove of the device as well.

Picture Clarity

On paper it seems reasonable but the camera setup cannot be fully relied on to deliver quality results consistently on most occasions.

On the one hand, it produces clear and detailed images when light and exposure settings are appropriate. On the other hand, however, I noticed that images taken in low lighting conditions lack details and this makes it less effective for taking photos in the evenings.

Video Recording

A gimbal or good hands are required because the phone does not have stabilization, hence the video footage will appear shaky.

Display

Redmi 13C is 6.74 inch

The average of 720p resolution on a 6.74 inch screen is not impressive, and the self-portrait camera that was cut in the shape of a U is also outdated. A punch-hole design would have been more convenient.

Design

Although it is attractive, the glossy finish is hard to keep clean, and without a phone case it is difficult to hold it in your hands as it is slipperey.

Charging Speed

It provides long usage durability and a battery capacity of 5000mah. However, the 10W charger has a rather slow charging speed. It took me more than two hours to charge the phone from 0 to 100%. In this fast pace charging era, waiting this long feels like waiting for an eternity.

My experience with HyperOS Android 14

I have found that not all of the features that were added with the recent HyperOS Android 14 update are applicable to the Redmi 13C.

What I liked About the HyperOS Android 14

Customizable lock screens

It’s nice to be able to add personal touches, such as ornamented wallpapers, varied fonts, as well as clocks.

Charging animations

The dynamic animations of Apple’s Dynamic Island are pleasant to look at, however they do add a little bit of latency when controlling access.

Multitasking: Surprisingly enough, the phone, can turn on mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hot spot all at once, which is wonderful for heavy users.

What Could Be Better

Always on display

This would have been useful since it is present on higher models of the Redmi Note series, however the AOD feature is missing.

Split screen functionality

Split screen features are limited to the basics; there is no screen shifting or overlaying, thus restricting multitasking.

Control Panel Design

New control panel design that can be observed on other models was not the case with the Redmi 13C as it still uses the old design.

Battery Performance

The 5000 mAh battery is decent for light to moderate users, and it should last the whole day. However, due to the demand for power of some gamers, a power socket might be needed midway through the day. The supplied charger of 10W is still an issue when it comes to charging speeds.

Performance and Gaming

A casual game can run perfectly well e.g eFootball and Stunt Bike Stream, but it doesn’t mean this device is built for gaming at its peak settings. From experience, I have had a few lags, but they’re hardly noticeable.

Audio Issues and Other Concerns

Audio Issues and Other Concerns Almost two decades of video editing have laid out my pet peeve which is audio desync whenever I record something through video, damn bugs These can seemingly be fixed off the screen, but trust me, it’s a hassle.

Final Thoughts of this review

Redmi 13C side view

Comes at a low price for those on a budget and provides decent features, although it lacks certain things, for example, performance and price are great but cameras, design and charging speed needs work. HyperOS Android 14 has pushed out new updates but has shown what it lacks.

For those of you who want an average device that performs mediocrely well for playing low end games and normal functions will not be disappointed by Redmi 13C. Then again don’t expect to be treating it as a flagship. What do you think of Redmi 13C?
